Jogging In The Park

Middletown Park is a 79-acre park in the middle of Middletown. There is a small lake, two or three playground areas, a couple of baseball fields and a few paths for walking or running.

There are no tall buildings in town, so church steeples and this water tower are the main features of the city's "skyline."

MIddletown In The Civil War

Middletown is within a 30-minute drive of many famous battlefields of the American Civil War, including Harper's Ferry, Gettysburg, Antietam and South Mountain. This historical marker on Main Street provides a better narrative than anything I could say, so I'll let the photograph speak for itself.

Garden

There are many little gardens like this but you never notice them if you just drive through. Walking through Middletown is a very pleasant and enlightening experience.

This particular garden is next to a tax preparer's office.

Ice Cream or Coffee?

This is a Middletown landmark. There actually was an ice cream shop at this location at one time. The building was vacant for many years, but new owners opened a coffee shop and restaurant at the site last year.

Despite my addiction to both coffee and ice cream, I have yet to visit this establishment. I hear it's great. I'll investigate soon and report my findings.

Play Ball!

This is one of the baseball diamonds in Middletown Park. Believe it or not, that baseball was exactly where you see it, at 8 in the morning; must have been left over from a game over the weekend.

Do you think the catcher or the batter ever get distracted by the beautiful scenery beyond the outfield?

Every Day Is Memorial Day

This memorial makes every day Memorial day in Middletown.

It is located a block south of the main intersection in town.

Main Street Middletown

Yes, the main street in Middletown, MD is called Main Street. This busy view includes the street, one of many church steeples and a glimpse of South Mountain in the background.

I wish the power lines weren't there, but in a way, it adds to the complex balance of old and new that makes this town what it is.

First Post

I'm intrigued by the City Daily Photo concept so I decided to start one of my own. Middletown, Maryland is quaint and photogenic town near where I live. This sunset was shot a few miles north of Middletown and I'm posting it here just to get started.

Drop by nearly every day for a new photo.
