Saturday was movie night at Middletown Park. I just stopped there long enough to take a picture, so I don't even know what the movie was.

This might be a school, but I don't really know. It is next door to the Middletown Library and a Google search indicates it's owned by Frederick County Schools.

Welcome Again

This welcome banner is at the Town Center Plaza - a fancy name for the strip center with Safeway, CVS, two banks, a pizza restaurant, an ice cream shop, a dentist and a cleaners.

This is a wider view of the welcome sign as you enter town from the north on Highway 17.

Peaceful Rest

It seems like small towns have more cemeteries than large cities. There are several in Middletown.


Each time I drive or walk past this particular cemetery, it looks different. The photographic possibilities are endless. But I am always respectful when I shoot pictures there.

Ornate Pattern

You just don't see something cool like this unless you get out of the car and walk around.

Dempsey's Grille

I had no idea how many neat little businesses there are in Middletown till I started walking along Main Street. It is much too easy to drive by and not see them. There are four restaurants in a two block stretch, including this one. I haven't had a meal there yet, but I will.

Sports and Religion

Often people view sports almost like religion. Here is a sporting goods store featuring the local team apparel; the columns are a reflection of the church across the street.

There's That Water Tower Again

If you're ever lost around Middletown Valley, just look for that tower. It is visible at least five miles from town.

End of the Blues

I can only imagine what a passer-by would think about that guy standing in the alley, nearly hugging the brick wall while looking straight up the wall with his camera.



This is another shot of the same wall. When my wife, who is also a photographer, saw it, she said, "Oh look, a picture of an air conditioner."

Blue Sliver

Same blue sky as the previous two photos. This Middletown flag is one of three on the front of the Municipal Building; the others are a Maryland flag and an American flag.



I'll move on to something different after one more blue shot tomorrow.

Blue Tuesday

Another "as-is" blue sky shot, with just a slight sharpness adjustment.

Blue Monday

The sky was incredibly blue on one of my recent shooting days. I had already decided to concentrate on bold colors and patterns, so the blue became my main color. I'll post a couple of additional "blue pattern" shots over the next few days.



By the way, the only Photoshop enhancement I did on this was a slight cropping from the original image and a slight sharpness adjustment. The sky really was that blue.

Yellow

This is the side of a retail building at the main intersection in town.

Whadda YOU Lookin' At?

This character was quite patient as I inched closer for a better shot. I took several, but this was the closest. I did a little Photoshop experimentation while I was at it.

The Tower

I feel I should explain what this is, but I have no idea. I just know it is on the school grounds and is the dominant "skyline" feature of Middletown.

This bench is in front of the Municipal Building (City Hall), across the steet from yesterday's bench.

A Bench Theme

There are many benches in Middletown, although I've never seen someone sitting on one. This bench is on Main Street and the view here is looking east.

Turqoise Car

While I was walking around shooting yesterday, I saw this car pull out onto Main Street. I'm an old car geek, and I've identified this as an early to mid 1950s Chrysler New Yorker. Without doing any research, my best guess for the year is 1953, 54 or 55. I pegged it for a Chrysler product (Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge or DeSoto) even before I zoomed in and saw "New Yorker" on the side.

Is it metal?

Last picture from my theme within a theme. This was my leading contender for the 'metal' theme shot on theme day; but I decided the grill probably isn't really metal, so I waited till today to post it.

Metal Fence and Grass

This fence is part of the fence anchored by the post in yesterday's post.

Theme Day - Metal

Today is theme day; the theme is metal. This thick, solid, cast iron post anchors part of a fence surrounding the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery at the north edge of Middletown.



This is my first time as a participant and I couldn't decide which metal shot to post, so I am doing a series. This is my "official" metal shot. I posted another candidate yesterday and will share a few more during the next couple of days.
