The child on the well is a statue. But when I first saw this yard, I thought the bird on the grass was also a statue ... until it flew away right after I took this picture.

This is another part of Middletown Memorial Park. You can see the two church steeples that make up the Middletown skyline, reversed from the perspective in most of the shots I've posted on this site.

Sad Day In Middletown

The crime rate in Middletown is very low, so this was big news yesterday. Two adults and three children died in an apparant murder/suicide. I believe it happened in the yellow house in these pictures.



I met some friends for lunch at The Main Cup and one of those friends who works there knew the family. This house is right behind the restaurant.

This is Church St. (Hwy 17) looking north, just after you enter town from the south.

I live north of Middletown, so my view tends to focus in that direction. So I decided to take some pictures south. This is the Catholic church on Hwy. 17.

Many suburbanites from the DC area have moved here during the past few years, but Middletown Valley is still rural and there is farmland just north of town.

A Warning Sign

I guess I'm working on a sign theme. This warning sign is taken looking south on Hwy 17 a little north of town. Sometimes this highway is busy; sometimes there are so few cars that a photographer can stand in the middle of the road and take a picture.

A Welcome Sign

This welcome sign at the north end of town looks different during various seasons and at various times of the day. The version in the right hand column was taken on an early summer morning last year. The one below was shot at noon a few days ago.

Middletown Bells

Sorry I didn't post this sooner. Bell and History Days is an annual Frederick County event during which painted bells are put up along streets in various towns. This year's focus included Middletown. This is one of 50 bells along Main Street (until today, April 6th).

It's Cherry Blossom time in Washington DC, 50 miles from Middletown. I was down there yesterday, camera in hand.

One More In Yellow

This is another yellow photo I considered for theme day. It is a daffodil about to bloom.

This month's theme day theme is YELLOW!


As I said yesterday, I'm running a series conciding with the yellow theme. This is a picture of a forsythia in my yard. These things scream yellow for a few weeks each year, then turn into pleasant green bushes.
