A quarter! That's pretty big! It is most likely a Marbled Orbweaver (Araneus marmoreus); we had one in our window in Michigan that had a very yellow abdomen. The orange all over is quite festive! They are quite harmless, pretty, and fun to watch build their webs. Three Rivers Daily Photo
3 Rivers is right, it is a Marbled Orbweaver. The adults are more active in late summer, early fall. It looks just like the one pictured in my field guide. Knowing your area, its the perfect habitat for this spider. Beautiful!
